PHILIP BARQUER, SPHR

Philip is President of HR Alternatives. During his 30 years of experience, Phil has held key HR management positions and directed HR functions for corporate and field operations for companies in the technology, healthcare and manufacturing industries. As a founder of HR Alternatives, Inc., Phil has provided expert advice to hundreds of companies on employee relations, compensation, benefits, management development and human resources best practices. Phil holds two undergraduate degrees including a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from California State University, Northridge. He also holds a Professional Designation In Industrial Relations from the University of California, Los Angeles and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). Previous leadership roles include member of the National Board of Directors for the Society for Human Resource Management, President for the Professionals In Human Resources Association, and Board of Directors for the Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Philip is a current member of the Society for Human Resource Management, Professionals In Human Resources Association, and a CEO member of VISTAGE.

Karen Henry

Karen Henry, SPHR

Karen Henry is a Senior HR Consultant with over 30 years of human resource management and consulting experience in corporate, field and multistate operations. Karen has worked with various size employers both public and private and has provided HR leadership to employers in multiple industries. Her hands-on experience as a Director and Manager of Human Resources provides a relevant understanding of the HR operations. As a Registered Corporate Coach, Karen provides coaching to leaders to enhance performance, communication skills and to coach executives on how to reach their objectives. Project work Karen has managed includes HR Audits, Employee Handbooks, Training, Recruitment, Employee Relations and Leadership skills analysis. Karen received her Masters of Science Degree in Organizational Development from the University of San Francisco, a Bachelor of Arts in Management from Vanguard University and a certification in Human Resource Management from University of California at Irvine. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources and a Registered Corporate Coach. Karen is a current member of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Penny LaClair is a Senior HR Consultant with over 20 years of human resource management experience in company headquarters, independent divisions and multistate operations. Previous positions she’s held include VP of Human Resources and Head of HR for companies in the Real Estate, Mortgage and Medical Research industries. Penny has an undeniable commitment to excellence and enjoys coaching teams through growth and change. Her experience includes roles as an integral member of acquisition teams through the due diligence process, integration and post-acquisition. Working with private equity she was a member of the management team that took a small business with less than 100 employees in California to a nationwide company with over a billion dollars in revenue. She has expertise with Employee Relations, training, on-boarding, talent management, HR systems and benefits. Executives and employees alike appreciate her creative style and approach to solving complex challenges. Penny received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Organization Behavior from the University of San Francisco, her Masters of Arts Degree in Psychology from Pepperdine and HR Certificate from Cal Poly Pomona. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources and is a current member of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Kharla Rendon is the human resource coordinator and administrator for HR Alternatives. Kharla has over ten years of administrative experience. She has worked in real estate, automotive, and the medical instruments industries. Kharla’s analytical skills and experience in document control has been critical in preparing Affirmative Action Plans for Government Contractors. Her client relations and bi-lingual skills are essential to servicing our client base throughout Southern California. Kharla received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Pacific Union College.

Steve has over 30 years of HR Management experience. He has proven credentials in the manufacturing, technology and transportation sectors. His hands-on experience includes working with start-up organizations, as well as providing guidance for Fortune 500 enterprises. His broad range of Human Resource management experience includes specialization in compensation and affirmative action programs. Steve holds a Master of Science degree in Management Science and a Bachelor of Science in Business, both from Oregon State University. Steve has served in leadership roles with the Society for Human Resource Management, the American Compensation Association, the Western Pension Conference, and the Labor Relations Committee of the US Chamber of Commerce.

NANCY MELLINGER, SPHR

Nancy has over 25 years with Executive Human Resources responsibilities in corporate, field, and multistate operations. Nancy has assisted many organizations in high technology and manufacturing industries to design, modify, and implement programs that encompass the human resources function. Area of expertise include, job analysis and job description development, employee/labor relations and various forms of training from leadership/supervisory to awareness training, and human resources policy and procedure development. Ms. Mellinger is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), and the Professionals in Human Resource Association (PIHRA). She served as President of PIHRA and was the Leadership Director, SHRM Area Board. Nancy has been an instructor in the human resources field for over 10 years at Chapman University, UC Irvine and Riverside. Nancy is a certified as a senior professional in human resources (SPHR). She received a Master’s degree in Organizational Development and has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis n Human Resources from California State University at Fullerton.
